Obit, The Corning Gazette, Dec 12, 1929 - Peter Hamilton, Pioneer, Pa sses Peter Hamilton of Fostoria, was born in Deleware Co., Ohio, Decembe r 28,1929, aged 65(should read 95) years and 11 months. He was the son of Thoma sR. and Letetia Hamilton. At the age of 28 he came to Nemaha County, Kansas, where he preemie dthe farm on which his son John and family now live, and in which the funeral services were held. March 22, 1888 he was united in marriage to Ella Mae Boyc eand to this union were born eight children; John, George, Rayden, David, Theodore, Rose, Otho and Elizabeth. Three children preceeded their father in death, Elizabeth in infancy, Rayden when 9 yrs old and Theodore, April 16 19 28when 28. Mr. Hamilton is survived by his wife, five children, ten grandchildren and one sister. He was one of the first settlers in Nemaha County. He h ada great many friends, and was always ready to lend a helping hand to all wh opassed by. A kind and loving husband and father always. Thru all his life he w as cheerful and uncomplaining. For the last few years he had been quit efeeble and passed away quietly in his sleep. So passes another old pioneer .The funeral service, conducted by Rev. E. H. Free, of the Corning Unite dBrethern church, was very impressive. Music was furnished by the New Eden mal equartet and a duet by Rev., & Mrs, Free. Interment was made in the America C ity Cemetery. From the Corning Gazette, Thursday December 5, 1929 - Pioneer Dies Peter Hamilton, on of Nemaha County's oldest residents died Thurdsay ,November 28, from the infirmities of old age, he being nearly 96 years. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the old home where his son John and family reside. Rev. Free condusted the service. Interment at America City Cemetery .Obituary next week. From History of Nemaha Co, KS - Peter was appointed county commissioner for Red Vermillion Twp 1855 and elected in 1859. He was a member of th efirst grand jury (Nov 1861) in Nemaha Co. 1885 Kansas State Census - owned land valued at $9,000.00, 320 acre s ingrass and 622 acres under fence, 60 acres corn, 20 acres oats, 1/2 acre potatoes, 13 horses, 49 milk cows, 38 cattle, 67 hogs, 35 aple trees, 5 cherry tre esand 1 dog.
