At the time, his father and mother were making plans to move to Cass Co., MO. During his infancy, he would spend time living with family friends and relatives while his father Steven and mother Jemima Jane Long Anderson, were setting up homestead in Strasburg, MO, on the Kansas-Missouri border. In the spring of 1861, Stephen would take his wife and family and make the long wagon trip to Cass Co., MO. Calvin went to the local elementary schools in Strasburg and would complete the 8th grade. He would then work on his father's farm until the death of his father. On 3 Feb 1887, he would marry an orphan girl named Minnie Hughes, who had grown up with a William Walker family after the death of her parentsin a wagon accident when she was three years old while moving from Ohio to Missouri. Her parents are unknown at this time, but Minnie had indicated and records indicate they were born in KY. After marrying Minnie, they would spend the next three years on his father's farm, caring for his mother and then would then encourage his mother, as did the rest of the family, to sell the familyfarm, as too much heartache and suffering occurred on that farm since moving to Missouri, as covered in the life of his father. Calvin would start workingas a teamster and continue this carreer throughout his adult life. He would remove his family to Kansas, hoping for better opportunities. Those opporunitiesdid not pan out after spending few years there and after the birth of Lester, the family returned to Missouri and settled in Lamar, in Barton County, which was a major transportation center at the time for the railroad. The family lived on West Pacific Street in Lamar. He would work as a teamster, driving supplies from the railroad depot to various businesses and farmers. On February 7, 1910, his wife, at the young age of 43, would pass away from stricture ofthe bowels and related ailments that persisted for six months. He would raisehis teenage children on their own and would never remarry. Calvin was a Baptist lay minister, following in his father's footsteps. Surely his childhood experiences caused this deep devotion to his Christian faith and relied on it greatly in helping him deal with his wife's untimely death and raise his children after the death of his young wife. His daughter Iola would take over the womanly tasks that were expected of the oldest female of the family if the mother would pass away. Iola in the same year would marry Lee David Carroll and they would live with the Anderson family and Calvin would remain living with Iola andher husband until his death in 1940.. Once his son Charles became an adult,he moved to California and wrote home encouraging the family to move there, asopportunities abounded in the fast growing state of the time, plus the lack ofcold snowy winters may have had an influence. Calvin decided to move his family to southern California and they settled in Corona, Riverside Co., California, soon after the death of Minnie. Calvin would work as a teamster until he was 65 years old and would pass away on 3 Apr 1940 in Orange County California at the home of his daugther Ella and her husband Robert Phillips and their daugther Barbara. The author of this report, spoke with Ella's daugther Barbara, who married Royal 'Sonny' Mueller. Ella relayed the story that she remembers well growing up with her 'grandpa Cal', as she called him. She said he was a devout Christian and remembered him often reading his bible in his later years. She said he was a gentle and quiet man of few words, but when he spoke you listened, because the few words he spoke were usually something of value and wisdom. She said he worked very hard, but did not have much, as the job he chose was not one of high wages. She said she had seen him the day before he died and spoke of missing his wife and hoping to see her soon.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 1:00 p.m., at the First Methodist church by the Rev. D. V. Gowdy of Quincy, assisted by Rev. H. S. Crede of Rushville. Burial was in the Rushville cemetery. Caroline Prudence Anderson was born to Vintson Anderson and Jane McDonald Anderson on January 9, 1859, and passed away at her home in Rushville on February 23, 1947. She was the eldest of seven children. She lived with her parents on a farm in Brown county for a few years, after which the family moved to Huntsville townshipin Schuyler county. Here Carrie Anderson attended the Jefferson rural school for one year, and later the Cane Hill school, where she finished her education. Her life was not one of adventure and excitement. From the the time of her graduation from Cane Hill school until she reached the age of 28, she spent her time at home with her parents and her brothers and sisters. During this period of her life she in all probability learned most of her accomplishments in homemaking. Most of us are born with a gift. Carrie Anderson had the finest gift in the course of humanity. She had that quality of selfless love and understanding which made her adored by her family and loved and respected by everyone who ever met her. It was her unusual talent to be loved by all and dislikedby none. On December 21, 1887, at the age of 28, she was wed to William H. Nelson. They continued to live in Huntsville township for nine years, during which time she gave birth to three of her children. After nine years they moved to Rushville, where she gave birth to their fourth and last child. The family remained in Rushville, where Carrie Nelson lost her husband in 1907, 40 yearspreceding her death. This great loss, however, did not change her wonderful attitude toward life, in which there was no room for bitterness. Her children and all who knew her will ever remember her for her kindness to others and selflessness in serving others. She was a faithful member of the Rushville Methodist church for over half a century, and as long as she was able was a regular attendant in the Mission Sunday school class and
