Henry Sargent, the son of the late Carl and Edna (Haber) Sargent and Pearl Maxine Vaughn, the daughter of the late Melvin and Hazel (Anderson) Vaughn, were married at the Camden United Methodist Church by the Rev. Edward Nickerson. Their attendants were his brother, Russell Sargent, and her sister, Dorothy (Vaughn) Small. They are the parents of six children, Lelin (wife Betty) of Rushville, Leslie (wife Diana) of Stillwater, Okla., Joyce (husband Terry) Williams of Rushville, Janet Shelts of Meredosia, Doris (husband Cecil) Vancil of Bushnell, and Donna Sargent of Rushville. They have 12 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, one great- grandchild, and two step-great-grandchildren. The Sargents have lived and worked on their farm in the White Oak neighborhood for 60 years. Note* | ANNIVERSARY - Gene Ralston and Shirley Vaughn - 40th Anniversary Mr. and Mrs.Gene (Shirley) Ralston of Rushville will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary on June 19, 2000. They will celebrate with a family open house on Sunday, June 18, at their home. A card shower is also being held in their honor. Their address is 120 Grandview Dr., Rushvllle, IL 62681 and they would enjoy hearing from their friends and relatives. The couple request that gifts be omitted. Gene, son of the late Charles and Louise Shaver Ralston, and the former Shirley Vaughn, daughter of the late Melvin and Hazel Anderson Vaughn, were married June 19, 1960, at the Camden Methodist Church. Both Gene and Shirley have served their community in the field of education for many years. They are the parents of a daughter, Gina, and a son, John. Gina is married to Charles Snider and teaches at Shelbina, Mo. John is married to theformer Amy Strong and they reside in Lansdale, Penn., where he continues toserve in the Navy. They have three children: Hannah (5), Jack (3) and Chloe (3 weeks). - The Rushville Times, Wednesday, June 14, 2000, page 5, column 1 OBITUARY - Shirley Ralston Shirley Jean Ralston, 64, of Rushville, died at 4:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at her home. She was born on Aug. 16, 1936, in Camden, the daughter of the late Melvin Fred and Hazel (Anderson) Vaughn. She married Gene Ralston on June 19, 1960, at the Camden United Methodist Church in Camden. He survives. Also surviving are one son, Lt. CommanderJohn David Ralston (wife Amy) of Lansdale, Penn.; one daughter, Gina Kay Snider (husband Charles) of Shelbina, Mo.; three grandchildren; two brothers, Keith Vaughn (wife Bonnie) of Rushville and Eldon Vaughn (wife Irene) of Camden; and two sisters, Maxine Sargent (husband Henry) of Rushville and Dorothy Small (husband Robert) of Rockford. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Sterling and Willard Vaughn and an infant brother, and a sister, Vivian Ruth Vaughn. Mrs. Ralston received her master's degree from Western Illinois University where she was active in the Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship. She first taught at Chandlerville High School for five years. She later taught for four years at St. Mary's School in Mt. Sterling. She retired as a sixth grade teacher in 1991, after teaching at Beardstown Junior High School for 13 years. She was a member of the Rushville Free Methodist Church where she was the Sunday School Superintendent of the juniors department. She was active in 4-H, serving as a leader and also as a delegate to the National 4-H Congress in Washington, D.C. She was also a member of the Beardstown Teacher's Association and the Junior Women's League. Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 18, at the Rushville Free Methodist Church with Rev. Rob Kirkham and Pastor Rosalee Ross officiating. Burial was in the Rushville City Cemetery. Wood-Roby Funeral Chapel in Rushville was in charge of services.
