(See census table).²⁶ Lyman Prescott is a legatee in the will of Samuel Prescott on 24 June 1837 Waterbury, Washington Co., VT, in the following manner: "I give to my son Lyman Prescott now a minor the sum of one hundred Dollars current money, to be paid to him when he attains the age of twenty one years - should he not so long live, then the same is to go to pay the expense of his last sickness, remainder to my Executor." He was head of household on the census of 22 July 1840 in Mequanigo, Milwaukee Co., WI.²⁷ Lyman Prescott, age 30, appears in the census enumerated on 5 September 1850, Mukwanego, Waukesha Co., WI, in the household of Huldah Prescott. He appears as head of household in the census of 30 July 1860 in Lafayette Twp., Monroe Co., WI, with Sarah Barnard, Lorenzo D. Prescott, Edward H. Prescott, Romanzo Prescott, and Laura A. Prescott.²⁸ Circa 1870 Lyman Prescott resided in Sparta, Monroe Co., WI. He appears as head of household in the census of 3 July 1870 in Lafayette Twp., Monroe Co., WI, with Edward H. Prescott and Lorenzo D. Prescott.²⁹
The Lyman Prescott family entry in the 1870 U.S. census includes Lyman and his two older sons Lorenzo and Edward. The initial assumption is that his wife Sarah and younger children Romanzo and Laura died before this enumeration. However, there is evidence that the two younger children were still living at this time and that Sarah (Barnard) Prescott remarried a man named Cole. It is possible that Lyman and Sarah were divorced before 1870. He appears as head of household in the census of 4 June 1880 in Lafayette Twp., Monroe Co., WI, with Mary Johnson, Albert Prescott, and Mary Prescott.³⁰ His occupation is listed as a farmer. Lyman Prescott appears as Lyman Prescott, age 80, in the census enumerated on 14 June 1900, Lafayette Twp., Monroe Co., WI, in the household of Lorenzo D. Prescott as his father.
