  1. Parents of Richard S. Spofford jr., who married Harriet Prescott Spofford and resided in the home on Deer Island between Newburyport and Amesbury. Richard jr. was once law partner of and later private secretary of Caleb Cushing, who became attorney-general of the United States. Harriet Prescott Spofford was a popular fiction writer in her time well known for her Gothic romance stories. Their home on Deer Island (where the above Frances Maria Spofford probably died) is still standing and has recently been converted to condos.
